Batman Miniatures Game Tournament Recap – Sept 2, 2017

Posted by on Sep 18, 2017

On Saturday Sept 2nd, 2017 we held the largest Batman Miniatures Game tournament to-date in Western Canada at Eastridge Sports Cards and Games in Calgary, Alberta. The turn-out was great with eight players registered, and each of them playing a different crew or team.Games got underway at 11am, with a brief break for a pizza lunch. The tournament was played over three rounds. At the end of the third round players submitted their crew sheets so that I could tally up the Batmatch points to determine a winner. While I was doing that, the players submitted their votes for a fellowship prize. Additionally the players and shop staff submitted their selections for the best painted crew at the event.Tournament Results and Crew Lists8th Place: Black Mask - 342/$1500 (Rick)Black MaskLt. TMNT Profiles for the Batman Miniature Game

Posted by on Sep 16, 2017

Well over a year ago I spent a little time trying to figure out the point formula for the Batman Miniatures Game. I had come up with a pretty close approximation and tried my hand at a few custom character profiles. I've only ever play-tested one of those, but in the three games we used it, the profile seemed pretty balanced. So I took what I learned and a few months later I came up with my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crew list!I built this crew to be as versatile as possible, but unless I went the route of the Watchmen, I still had to stick within the established rank format. The profiles are just text; I never bothered to create proper card graphics to use. With the just-released 2nd Edition rules for the game, I might try my hand...

Strange Aeons Goes ‘Supernatural’

Posted by on Aug 10, 2017

It's been a long time since I painted any figures for Uncle Mike's skirmish game Strange Aeons. I've had most of the models from their second edition Kickstarter sitting in a drawer, based and primed, awaiting paint jobs.Flipping through Netflix the other day I realized I was several years behind on the tv series Supernatural, which I believe is going into its thirteenth season! That same week I found a 1:43 scale Impala to use, so I simply had to dig out the 'Remington' brothers and slap some paint on them while I was watching the show.Sadly one of the mirrors fell off the car right after this photo was taken. The last few games I played were using the solo deck with my ever-evolving Threshold list, but I quickly stat-ed up a new list for the boys and we got...

BMG Game & Demo Day, Aug 6, 2017

Posted by on Aug 7, 2017

I had an excellent turnout for the game & demo day for the Batman Miniature Game at Eastridge Sports Cards & Games today. The demo table was busy showcasing the game at 200 reputation, with AC Batman and Robin up against Killing Joke Joker, Classic Harley Quinn and Turk. The Bat-crew took narrow victories in each game.200 Rep demo tableOn the large table an awesome 4-player battle royale took place. Several of my local players pit some fantastic looking crews against one another, fighting for supremacy over my new Gotham Carnival board layout. Two Joker crews (one led by AK Harley, another by SS Joker) faced off against LexCorp and the Bat-Family. At the end of the day the heroes took the win with a meagre 8VP.Check out the photos below to get in on some of the action.Don't...

Iko Turso DFC Battle Report

Posted by on Jul 30, 2017

It's been a bit of a while since I've had a chance to update the blog, but I've had a nice period of gaming lately! I met a new group down in Hamilton that I get to game with, which has been excellent. I'll blog about those in a while. Here I wanted to provide an update on the Iko Turso campaign that James and I have been playing! We managed to carve out some time to play our first DFC game for the campaign; a cool 800pts.800pts is a tough list to create! I got slaughtered pretty hard, which I blame squarely on my list building in this game; so far that seems to be a theme in the campaign because I have been taking unusual units and strange combinations. In this particular instance I did not take my beloved...

The Marvel Universe Collection Grows

Posted by on Jul 21, 2017

A few more figures for the Marvel Universe Miniature Game got completed a while back.I'd had the Punisher model since before the game was released and had no idea he'd eventually be usable with a downloadable card from Knight Models. I'm happy that he's usable in both Universe and the Batman Miniature Game. Ironically this paint job took more work than I expected, largely because while I was highlighting the skin I nearly messed it up entirely and had to spend quite a bit of time cleaning it up. I very nearly started over, and almost wish I had.Daredevil was an easy enough job to paint. I decided I didn't want to do the all red or the yellow and brown outfits, so I went with a red-tinted black costume with red accessories. The picture shows me that I didn't...

Iku-Turso Mission 2: Take the Mines!

Posted by on Jul 13, 2017

MISSION BRIEFING:It took a lot of time and effort, but we've finally extracted and decrypted the memories on our fallen scientist's limbic implants.  There's a lot of missing data, but from what we can piece together, the lab was taking some kind of mineral, or energy source, and using it to build a weapon - something so terrible it could very well tilt the whole war in the Scourge's favour if it is ever completed.  We don't yet know what this weapon is, or how far along in the build process the Scourge are, but our scans of the scientist's mind were able to reveal the location of the source of the necessary material:  Khonsu, Iku-Turso's own moon. Our mission is to seize the mining facilities on this moon, and we need to do it quickly.  Our sources tell us...

DFC: After Action Report. 1500pts PHR vs Scourge

Posted by on Jul 9, 2017

Djinn made for a horrifying alpha strike!I had a truly excellent game with my buddy Steve on Thursday evening. We met down at the Hamilton MIGS (Military Interests Gaming Society) clubhouse where they have a whole ton of terrain and tables for various scales of wargames. We played 1500pts a side which is the largest I've played yet and fought a Take and Hold scenario. Scourge is one of my favourite factions to play against. Not only do they have an excellent background, but their playstyle is something that I enjoy very much playing against. The fact that they are supremely fast, built for up-close engagement, and typically are on the opposite end of the tactical spectrum from PHR makes for a very enjoyable battle.Echoes respond to the right flank threat.Steve had decided to perform an early game alpha strike...

Fleet Parade

Posted by on Jul 5, 2017

It is a happy thing to reach a milestone when involved in a large painting project. Today I feel as if I've reached a decent milestone.I now have enough versatility in my painted PHR fleet that I can field a variety of options, including more frigates and different configurations of troop landing ships.I do feel a bit short on Medeas though, really I do need two more to round out the fleet number to a healthy eight.1500pt PHR Dropfleet Armada!I managed to get 2 Calypsos done in 2 days during the work week, so I'm pretty happy with being able to have that progress. With the Scipio that I completed last week, I'm now able to field a 1500pt fleet for the gaming session that I was invited to on Thursday. VERY much looking forward to being able to...

Thoughts Regarding Fleet Expansion

Posted by on Jul 3, 2017

Scipio Battlecruiser ready for launch. With my Scipio Battlecruiser finished I am now closing in on the finishing touches of my PHR fleet, which is great. I've hugely enjoyed painting this fleet but am very much looking forward to it being finished and being able to concentrate on some other projects (like my Warhammer 40k Tau and my DFC Shaltari).I LOVE the look of the Scipio, it's big, nasty and has launch capacity and there is just something about carriers that I truly love. That being said, I think it's fair to say that it is not as good as it's cousin the Leonidas which is 15pts cheaper. So with the nearing of my fleet's completion I start to look into where I can round out the holes in my fleet. I've started working on getting some Calypsos finished, with the...
